This is what some of our supporters have told us

Maybe you feel the same?

‘Active Travel England’s guidance says cycling here will not be safe, or feel safe, with this much traffic. How can I let my child cycle to school or to see their friends?  I will ask them to return to cycling on the pavement’

‘With this much traffic I will be constantly afraid of close passes when cycling. It will be even worse when I am slowing down and going uphill.’

‘The Barrack Road junction will be harder for me to reach and cross safely. If I cannot get to the advanced stop area to use the early green light for people on bikes, I worry that drivers will turn across and into me.’

‘Painted lanes will not keep me or my children safe. They tempt drivers to pass people who are cycling too closely.’

‘My needs as a mobility scooter user crossing Dryden Road at Well Oak Park have not been considered.’

‘The mini roundabout at Bovemoors Lane will become more dangerous again for people like me walking or cycling, with more motor traffic approaching from Dryden Road.’

‘This fails to deliver things Exeter has been promised, such as cleaner air and a joined-up, safe cycling network. I need safe cycling and walking routes from home to

my destination if I am going to leave my car at home.’

‘All the important aims could have been achieved by making the filters a bus gate, which would have kept my family and me safe when walking and cycling.’

‘As a woman, I will have fewer travel choices that feel safe because of this change to the road layout.’

‘As a parent of teenagers, I know this change to the road layout will restrict their travel choices and their freedom.’

‘I have a disability that means I cannot drive. Dryden Road means I can travel independently by mobility scooter from Wonford to a friend’s house near Barrack Road . Taking that away will affect my quality of life’

What does Exeter Cycling Campaign stand for?
A comprehensive, convenient and connected network of cycle paths for people of all ages and abilities to choose cycling as the safe, natural choice for everyday journeys.

We advocate not only for people who cycle but for people who walk, wheel and scoot.
