Nurses Way
There is a missing link in the cycle network: a safe, joined-up north-south path across the city. The ‘Nurses’ Way’ fills this missing link. It will provide a safe cycle path joining up many of the city’s major employers, schools and other organisations. The Nurses Way is part of the DCC-agreed long term cycling and walking programme for the city (LCWIP).

Quick Wins
There are many small improvements that can be made throughout the city to enable more people to cycle safely and conveniently. You will doubtless know of missing dropped kerbs, signage changes, barriers etc that could be changed to improve things. We’re working with both Devon County and Exeter City Councils to get these sorted.
LCWIP: Long Term Cycling & Walking Strategy
Devon County Council has adopted a long-term plan, the Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), to improve cycling and walking routes across the county. We continue to press for these routes to be delivered.

E4 – East to West Route
The Campaign has been pressing since 2015 for the full east-west ‘E4’ link to be delivered. This is a key link from housing on the east of the city, past the Arena and Morrisons, linking to the University Streatham campus and down to St. David’s Station
Planning Responses
We actively engage in the planning process to make sure new housing developments are designed to encourage active travel and prioritise the safety of all residents.

Exeter Local Plan
Exeter City Council is pulling together a Local Plan. This is “a blueprint for the future of the city”, and sets the strategic direction for how and where development will happen in the city. The policies underpinning the Local Plan will shape how safe and accessible the city is for people cycling and walking. The Campaign has actively engaged in the consultation of this Plan
Bike Hangers
The Campaign is advocating for on-street bike hangars in Exeter to provide secure, accessible bike storage for residents who lack space at home.

Exeter Transport Strategy
The Campaign engaged positively with the Exeter Transport Strategy, which lays out priorities and approach for the next decade on our roads.
