Dryden Road Traffic Regulation Order has been published
It will make our streets less safe and more congested
Your objection needs to be completed by 3rd December
The Council must consider every individual objection.
The Campaign will be making a strong case supported by our crowdfunded legal advice.
Your personal experience will make it stronger.
Lodge an objection https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/jzTGnM1n31 to explain in your own words why reopening Dryden Road to motor traffic concerns you and how it could affect you, your family or others.
Ensure you tell the Council that you are objecting.
See here for details of the scheme https://bit.ly/4iAitk2
You don’t need to write much or be an expert. A short, well-founded personal objection can make a real difference.
The Council is not legally forced to agree with every objection, but the law requires them to consider material considerations such as safety hazards, traffic displacement, equality impacts.
The strongest objections are those that give clear, specific reasons why the council’s proposal is wrong.
For example, explaining how reopening Dryden Road would compromise your safety with only paint between you and vehicles or make it harder to cross safely to get to work, increase your journey time if young, old or disabled, or expose you to more pollution.
A reminder
The TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) will remove the current bollards and bring back two-way motor traffic.
The council plan to put in some road changes but these are inadequate.
These include 20mph, some traffic calming and painted cycle lanes that motor vehicles will enter as they pass other vehicles.
One zebra crossing is provided but in the wrong place to be most useful for pedestrians.
Dryden Road is part of the E9 strategic cycle route, linking Pynes Hill, Ludwell Valley Park, hospitals and city centre.
At present cycling on it is comfortable for almost everyone, after the changes the Council’s modelling expects so much traffic to appear that it will exclude many people on cycles.
The consultation closes on 3rd December so lodge your objection today at https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/jzTGnM1n31
It only takes a few minutes.
If you have multiple reasons, it is best to do each one as a separate submission so each objection is properly and fully considered.
