What does the Campaign think of the options?
We support Option 1 (bus gate/authorised vehicles only). It is a low-cost proven option to resolve most stakeholder concerns. It will support Exeter’s emerging safe cycling network and deliver the Exeter Transport Strategy.
We strongly oppose Option 2 (one -way vehicles). It is unfair, unsafe, not inclusive and does not address stakeholder concerns. It will start to dismantle Exeter’s emerging safe cycling network and would be in direct opposition to the Exeter Transport Strategy.
We strongly oppose Option 3 (two-way vehicles) : This option is high cost, unfair, will create congestion, is very unsafe and not inclusive. It will remove 900 vehicles past the houses on Bovemoors Lane but put an extra 1500 vehicles past the houses on Dryden Road! It will lead to an overall increase of traffic movements at the Bovemoors Lane roundabout from 7300/day to 9700/day. It will start to dismantle Exeter’s emerging safe cycling network, create traffic congestion and would be in direct opposition to the Exeter Transport Strategy.
