The latest plans for Dryden Road were approved by Councillors at the Devon Council Council Exeter Highways Committee on Monday 12 October.
A reminder that these plans have been shown by Devon County Council to increase congestion at the Barrack Road junction and reduce saftey for cyclists along the whole length of the E9 Strategic Cycle Route on Dryden Road.
This cycle route has been promoted by Exeter City Council as part of their action to tackle illegal air pollution in Exeter by providing an alternative to driving on the Heavitree Road corridor.
This cycle route was promoted by Devon County Council as providing an established, safe and quick route from the City Centre to Pyne’s Hill, Devon County Council used this route as justification for choosing not to invest in safe cycling along the Topsham Road corridor when they published their plans for cycle routes in Exeter.
In the five years since Dryden Road was filtered, collisions for all road users on Dryden Road, Barrack Road and Bovemoors Lane have been reduced by 50% . What a great success- fewer broken bones, fewer people afraid to cross the road and fewer hold ups due to collisions.
Despite all of this, Councillors have voted to approve the plan and spend half million pounds, as a result of local traffic concerns caused by parked cars on Bovemoors Lane that could be solved for a fraction of the cost.
We expect Devon County Council will go live with a consultation on the Traffic Regulation Order very soon.
At that stage the our legal support that we have been able to secure thanks to ourCrowdfunder will help us respond with objections.
Once we know more we shall keep you updated and provide some hints on doing your own objections
